Leading A Healthy Lifestyle. [Infographic]

What if we told you, “listen, we don’t really want to see you walk through our clinic doors”. Sounds a little strange, right? Well, the truth is, if you aren’t walking into one of our clinics it means you aren’t in need of treatment – and that’s a good thing!

The reality is, injuries happen – people get hurt, and massage, physio, and/or chiropractic care is required. That’s where we come in. We’re passionate about assisting our clients in their rehabilitation, and really, there is no better feeling than helping someone down the path of wellness.

But let’s go back to basics for a minute – injury prevention starts with some simple health and wellness practices anyone can do! Often times, not eating a balanced diet, drinking enough water, or getting enough daily exercise can lead to injury.

We’ve put together a fun infographic you can look over, and even share to spread the good word on wellness. ENJOY!

THIM Staff Spotlight: Meet Dave Kervin.

My name is Dave Kervin, and I’ve been a Registered Massage Therapist for over 16 years, working at Trent Health in Motion for the past 11.

From a very young age I’ve always had an interest in sports, fitness, health, and living an active lifestyle.   My parents encouraged me throughout all my childhood sports ranging from rep hockey to track and field.  Through high school as my love for sports increased I knew I wanted to pursue a career in health and fitness.  After landing onMassage Therapy as the right path for me, I pursued my post secondary education at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy, in Newmarket, ON.  From there I had the opportunity to travel to Corner Brook, Newfoundland to work with the Core Medical team at the 1999 Winter Canada Games.

With that first taste of working with athletes, I knew I wanted to direct my clinical focus in this direction. I became the Sports Outreach Supervisor at Sir Sanford Fleming College with their Massage Therapy Program in the fall of 2003 and then progressed into instructing there with the 3rd year students in Clinical Treatments.  In the fall of 2005 when Trent Health in Motion opened its’ doors, I read about the clinic opening in the newspaper and knew I had to contact Kylie Gibson (Head Physiotherapist) to pursue working with her and in the setting that the University clinic was providing. Through its’ growing student population and Varsity athletic programs, it was clear to me that it was the right fit.

Starting from a very small clinic space, THIM has grown to a beautiful, multidisciplinary clinic, over-looking the Trent Severn Waterway, with a fantastic team of knowledgeable, competent health care providers, […]

Leading The Way With “FOTO”

It says it in our name – we pride ourselves on leading the way in new industry initiatives and practices. That’s why our clinics were the first in Canada to use FOTO (Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes). Here’s how “FOTO” is defined by our friends at the Canadian Physiotherapy Association
This is an outcome measure used to objectively determine the baseline function of a patient at the beginning of treatment. Once treatment has commenced, the same measure can be used to determine progress and treatment efficacy.

Outcome measures provide a means to define treatment goals and track patient progress. Physiotherapists have been using them for many years to great effect. In fact, physiotherapists lead in the use of outcome measures across Canada. But we’re not sharing them, and that means the collective data isn’t being maximized.

That’s why CPA has partnered with Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes, Inc. (FOTO) to be the exclusive provider of data collection and reporting services for a rehabilitation functional outcome-based registry for CPA members.
So, what does this mean for us, and more importantly, for our patient’s? In short, this allows us more control over how we can effectively treat our patients over time – and by tracking progress, patient satisfaction, and recording results in a database, we are storing valuable information for future use. This helps you, the patient, by knowing you are getting the best treatment as we reference previous cases just like yours, and how they were dealt with.

What excites us most are new initiatives just like this. Bettering our clinics by gathering, recording, and using valuable information to rehabilitate the varied conditions we see each day, across all of our clinics.

We look forward to bringing more like this, your way. Improving, evolving and […]
